DWI Essays 2005
Matthew Kato Foundation
Raising Awareness about the impacts of drinking and driving
No DWI essays were submitted in 2007, however a former RH student who is now studying at RIT,
Ysanya Perez, did a photography project profiling Matthew's death and she was awarded a $1,000
scholarship
The recipients of this year's scholarships submitted essays that were thoughtful, had data relating
to DWI research and were written with a personal view as a peer into the behaviors of those who
continue to act irresponsibly even after being witness to the devastation caused by DWI. Both
showed wisdom beyond their years and a maturity and ability to reason that many adults never
achieve in a lifetime. The winners were Kelly Barone and Kathryn E. Mercadel.
